A middle-aged temple priest from Muvattupuzha has been arrested by the Ernakulam Rural Cyber Police after a complaint over allegedly derogatory remarks made online against social reformer Sree Narayana Guru and a community in Kerala, police said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as K.V. Subhash, who serves as the Tantri of a Nagaraja temple in Muvattupuzha, was arrested on Saturday, a day after he was taken into custody in connection with the case. Police said the action followed a complaint regarding a YouTube video published earlier this month in which he allegedly made remarks considered offensive and inflammatory.
According to the first information report, the video was alleged to have been aimed at insulting and defaming the dignity and reputation of Sree Narayana Guru, the Ezhava community, and people associated with the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam, or SNDP Yogam. The FIR further states that the remarks were seen as capable of disrupting public peace and provoking hatred between communities.
