HII Seeks Return to U.S. Navy Frigate Competition After Constellation Setback
Huntington Ingalls Industries, the shipbuilder tied to the troubled Constellation-class frigate effort, is positioning itself to re-enter the U.S. Navy’s next frigate competition as the service weighs how to move forward with its FF(X) patrol frigate program. The push comes as the Navy continues to assess foreign designs and refine requirements for a smaller surface combatant that can be built and delivered more quickly than the Constellation class has been able to achieve.
