Teacher’s Discovery of Giant Fossil Footprints Rewrites T. rex Movement Science
A high school teacher’s chance discovery of two enormous fossil footprints in North Dakota has helped scientists identify what may be the first known adult Tyrannosaurus rex trackway, a find that could sharpen understanding of how the predator moved, hunted and grew. The discovery adds a rare behavioral data point to a fossil record dominated by bones, not motion, and underscores how citizen science continues to expand paleontology’s evidence base.
