U.P. Turns Village Waters Into Fisheries Engine as Leasing Expands Across Ponds and Rivers
Uttar Pradesh is intensifying its push to make fisheries a core pillar of rural livelihoods by bringing more than 80,000 hectares of Gram Sabha ponds and 2,205 km of rivers under leasing. State officials say the strategy has helped lift fish production from 6.29 lakh tonnes to 15.90 lakh tonnes over eight years, underscoring a major shift in the use of village water bodies for income generation and food supply.
