Svitolina Says Ukraine War’s Emotional Strain Helped Drive Separation from Monfils

Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina has said the emotional toll of Russia’s war on Ukraine contributed to her separation from fellow player Gaël Monfils, underscoring how the conflict has reached deep into private lives far beyond the battlefield. The couple, who married in 2021 and share one child, remain among the sport’s most recognizable families, but Svitolina’s remarks highlight the pressure the war has placed on Ukrainian athletes living and competing under extraordinary strain.
