Harsh Goenka’s Tata Sons Thought Experiment Puts Philanthropy Scale in Focus
RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka has sparked a fresh debate over the scale of Tata Sons’ capital base and its potential social impact, saying a hypothetical sale of the company’s listed equity portfolio and reinvestment into 6%–7% safe-yield instruments could generate as much as Rs 82,000 crore a year for philanthropy. His remarks, posted on X, came as he contrasted that figure with Tata Sons’ reported annual dividend of Rs 4,475 crore.
