Rare Fossil Reveals First Known Fruit-Eating Dinosaur, Rewriting Late Cretaceous Diets
A rare fossil discovery has identified a new dinosaur species, Infernogallus jamesi, that appears to have specialized in eating fruit, challenging long-held assumptions that dinosaurs were divided mainly into meat-eaters and plant-eaters. The find, reported by researchers working with a Stony Brook University paleontologist, adds a surprising ecological layer to the final days of the age of dinosaurs.
