Jury Selection Opens in Guantánamo’s First Death-Penalty Case

Jury selection has begun at Guantánamo Bay in the long-delayed military commission trial of the accused mastermind of the USS Cole bombing, marking the first death-penalty case ever to proceed at the U.S. naval base. The case is a major test of whether the military commission system can still deliver a credible capital trial after years of legal challenges, procedural setbacks and political controversy.
