Alternative Payment Rails Gain Ground as Russia Rethinks Cross-Border Finance
PSB Bank Chairman Petr Fradkov has underscored how Russiaโs cross-border payments market is being reshaped by sanctions pressure and the search for alternative financial infrastructure. In an interview with RBC, he described the A7 international payment system as a mechanism that operates in a space where conventional international payments have largely disappeared. The remarks highlight a broader shift in global finance: the rise of parallel payment channels designed to keep trade moving when established banking networks are constrained. For sectors dependent on imported components, including automotive and electric mobility, the evolution of these rails could influence settlement speed, supplier access and transaction risk.
