India, Mauritius amend tax treaty to curb abuse, add principal purpose test
India and Mauritius have amended their tax treaty to strengthen anti-abuse safeguards and make treaty relief contingent on the commercial substance of transactions. The revised framework introduces a principal purpose test, giving authorities wider scope to deny benefits where arrangements are designed mainly to secure tax advantages rather than genuine economic activity.
