PE Teacher’s 10-Year Campaign Brings Gandhian Values to 400 Karnataka Colleges

A physical education teacher named Abida has spent more than a decade taking the life and principles of Mahatma Gandhi to students across Karnataka, reaching 400 colleges in 31 districts. The effort reflects a sustained grassroots push to keep Gandhian ideas relevant for young people amid changing social and political priorities. Her campaign, built on direct engagement with students and institutions, underscores how civic education in India often depends on individual initiative rather than large formal programmes. The scale of the outreach suggests a rare, long-term attempt to translate moral philosophy into campus-level public learning.
