El Niño Threatens Rabi Output in Rainfed Areas, Puts Foodgrain Supply on Watch
The agriculture ministry has warned that El Niño conditions could tighten irrigation planning and stress rainfed farms during the rabi season, raising the risk of lower output in wheat, pulses and oilseeds. The warning comes as India faces more erratic climate patterns, with the biggest vulnerability concentrated in areas that depend on winter moisture and limited canal or groundwater support.
