Supreme Court Seeks Review of State DGP Appointment Rules Against 2006 Prakash Singh Guidelines
The Supreme Court has signalled a fresh examination of state-level rules governing the appointment of Directors General of Police, asking whether they align with the 2006 Prakash Singh judgment that sought to insulate police leadership from political interference. A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant noted that the earlier ruling had prescribed a transparent selection process and a minimum two-year tenure for the police chief.
