Delhi Court Rejects Parvesh Verma’s Defamation Complaint Against AAP’s Saurabh Bhardwaj

A Rouse Avenue court has dismissed a defamation complaint filed by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Parvesh Verma against Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bhardwaj, holding that the remarks at issue were framed as questions rather than defamatory assertions. The ruling is a notable reminder of the legal threshold required to sustain a criminal defamation case in political speech disputes. The decision underscores how courts distinguish between pointed political criticism and statements that can be shown to directly impute wrongdoing. It also adds to the long-running pattern of adversarial litigation between rival parties in Delhi’s highly charged governance arena.
